Getting Started

Choosing the Right Smoki® Unit

Smoke Zapper or Maxi Grill? Pick by how your appliance is vented, then size by chimney diameter or exhaust airflow (CFM).

Applies to all Smoki® units · Updated October 24, 2026

Step 1: How is the appliance vented?

Your appliance vents… Use Typical equipment
Straight into its own chimney (direct connection, no hood) Smoke Zapper Wood-fired pizza and bread ovens, BBQ and fish smokers
Into a Type I commercial kitchen hood Maxi Grill Wood-fired grills, charbroilers, hearths under a hood

Kitchens with both — for example twin pizza ovens on a chimney plus a grill under a hood — use one of each. See the Marta project for an example.

Step 2: Pick the size

Smoke Zapper — sized by chimney connection

Model Chimney connection Airflow up to
Smoke Zapper 200 8” 350 CFM
Smoke Zapper 250 10” 450 CFM
Smoke Zapper 300 12” — for dual-oven arrangements and heavy-duty smokers 700 CFM

Maxi Grill — sized by exhaust airflow

Model Handles up to
Maxi Grill 250 1,200 CFM
Maxi Grill 350 1,800 CFM
Maxi Grill 400 3,700 CFM
Maxi Grill 500 4,700 CFM
Maxi Grill 500 S 6,200 CFM

Your mechanical engineer or hood supplier can give you the design CFM. Full dimensions and electrical data are on each model’s specification sheet.

Step 3: Get a recommendation

Not sure? Send us the appliance make, chimney diameter or hood CFM, and the ZIP code of the job through the Smoke Zapper quote form or Maxi Grill quote form. Choose “Unable to specify” if you don’t know the size — we’ll work it out with you.
